firms, evaluates <strong>four macro-level scenarios<\/strong> based on \u201cimportant geopolitical, technological, and socioeconomic uncertainties\u201d that deserve the attention of those engaged in the development of corporate strategies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BCG also explores <strong>how each of these four developments would impact<\/strong> a hypothetical research-oriented European-based pharmaceutical manufacturer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align:center\"> #1 Globalist commercial paradigm ends <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>First, BCG explores the possibility that the globalist commercial paradigm that has defined global commerce for the past several decades ultimately unravels, giving rise instead to populism and nationalism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BCG presents this as an unfavorable development that would lead to <strong>reduced global output and employee layoffs<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the risks: The United States ultimately departs the World Trade Organization (WTO), leading to the <strong>WTOs dissolution<\/strong>, and the European Union\u2014building on the <strong>Brexit<\/strong> movement in the United Kingdom\u2014becomes increasingly <strong>climate change<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Third, the growing concerns about <strong>carbon emissions and climate change<\/strong> lead the world\u2019s top industrial powers to fundamentally restructure under new environmental regulations, leading to reduced workloads for employees and growing challenges for employee earnings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emboldened by their success on environmental policy, these activists move on from environmental activism to other aggressive policy campaigns, including \u201cpay equity, corporate responsibility, democratic reform, and single payer healthcare in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Result <\/strong>for the hypothetical European pharmaceutical company: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The pharmaceutical company benefits from <strong>increased access<\/strong> to healthcare and a system that rewards health outcomes, <\/em><\/li><li><em>and the company looks to its <\/em><strong><em>manufacturing consolidation to offset increased costs<\/em><\/strong><em> from anticipated environmental-focused carbon taxes. <\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align:center\">#4 Regulatory changes driven by governments<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Fourth, governments move to break up large companies, open borders, and remove intellectual property protections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With these massive changes, job security erodes and less skilled employees are left struggling.
