{"id":1860,"date":"2020-12-04T12:42:36","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T11:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theofficialboard.com\/best-articles\/?p=1860"},"modified":"2020-12-04T13:02:31","modified_gmt":"2020-12-04T12:02:31","slug":"thumb-stopping-humaning-b4h-the-strange-language-of-modern-marketing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theofficialboard.com\/best-articles\/2020-11\/thumb-stopping-humaning-b4h-the-strange-language-of-modern-marketing\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Thumb-Stopping,\u2019 \u2018Humaning,\u2019 \u2018B4H,\u2019 : The Strange Language of Modern Marketing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/11\/25\/business\/media\/thumb-stopping-humaning-b4h-the-strange-language-of-modern-marketing.html\">Vie<em>wed in The New York Times<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">To understand today\u2019s marketing lingo, one literally must understand words you won\u2019t find in any standard dictionary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Many corporate functions, of course, have their lingo and acronyms that have become embedded inside these respective professions, so this is not an entirely new phenomenon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">But marketing seems to lead all corporate functions in carving out a language of its own, as this <em>New York Times<\/em> article affirms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Humaning<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider the word \u201chumaning.\u201d With aid from advertising giant Ogilvy, food manufacturer Mondelez International is credited with the term\u2019s invention, a definition they offered in a recent corporate press release. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHumaning is a unique, <strong>consumer-centric approach<\/strong> to marketing that creates real, human connections with purpose, moving Mondelez beyond cautious, data-driven tactics, and uncovering what unites us all,\u201d the company said in its release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nor does this new marketing lexicon end with \u201chumaning\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B4H or Brand for Human<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>This abbreviation for &#8220;Brands for Humans&#8221; has arrived in the wake of \u201cB2B\u201d (shorthand for \u201cbusiness-to-business\u201d) and \u201cB2C\u201d (\u201cbusiness-to-consumer\u201d). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thumb-stopping<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thumb-stoppoing is about online content, designed for mobile devices, that catches &#8220;someone\u2019s attention enough to stop him or her from scrolling&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The list of new words and phrases the marketing profession has created and thrust upon is increasingly voluminous. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Knowing the traditional five P\u2019s of marketing is hardly enough in 2020 as new marketing buzz phrases emerge, including \u201c<strong>brand heat<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>customer journey,<\/strong>\u201d \u201c<strong>hypertelling<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>occasion<\/strong>,\u201d and \u201c<strong>phygital<\/strong>\u201d? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those looking to define each, this <em>New York Times<\/em> article is a worthwhile read.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Viewed in The New York Times To understand today\u2019s marketing lingo, one literally must understand words you won\u2019t find in any standard dictionary.
