In this <em>Fast Company<\/em> article, sociologist and author Tracy Brower details five factors deserving consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Give to get<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>First, she writes,perform exceptionally. \u201cWe give to get\u201d is the reality of the reciprocal work relationship, which means that top-performing employees will find themselves on stronger footing if they are performing at high standards when they request flexible work terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be specific and considerate<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Specificity is also important. Also consider the potential impact on your broader team. \u201cRemember anything you ask for yourself will have a domino effect on your colleagues and their work\u2014so be considerate and ensure you\u2019re not unintentionally putting additional pressure on your teammates,\u201d she writes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be transparent<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>With flexible work terms in place, be sure to place a special emphasis on communication. \u201cBe sure you\u2019re transparent with your manager and your team members, keep them abreast on what you\u2019re working on,\u201d Brower suggests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be reasonable<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>And, finally, reasonableness is important. \u201cJust because you can, doesn\u2019t mean you should,\u201d she writes.
