Instead, the largest organizations increasingly converge on remarkably similar ways of organizing, leading and investing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three recurring questions guided our analysis:\n<br> \u2022 How is work coordinated?\n<br> \u2022 What do leadership teams prioritize?\n<br> \u2022 Where do organizations invest for the future?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than starting with predefined categories, we analyzed executive reporting structures, leadership responsibilities and leadership changes across thousands of organizations. Recurring patterns naturally emerged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those recurring patterns were grouped into consistent Operating Models, Leadership Priorities and Investment Priorities. The following sections show how the most common of those patterns evolve as organizations scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. How work is coordinated<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>As organizations scale, they change how they coordinate work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Young companies organize around products. Large organizations increasingly organize around execution, consistency and coordination<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Four operating models explain almost every large organization we studied.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Product Ecosystems <\/strong>&nbsp;<em>(where many growth companies start)<\/em><br>Examples : OpenAI \u00b7 Databricks \u00b7 Canva<br>Teams are organized around products and customer experiences. What leadership teams prioritize<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>As organizations evolve, leadership priorities evolve too. Scale changes what leadership teams discuss around the executive table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Financial Discipline becomes increasingly dominant, while Execution and Regional Execution gain importance as organizations reach global scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The four dominant leadership priorities<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Products <\/strong><em>(to win customers)<\/em><br>Examples: Meta, Netflix, Salesforce<br>Leadership focuses on building products customers value. They all began as relatively small organizations. Today they are among the world&#8217;s largest enterprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Products evolve. Markets evolve. Organizations evolve too.<br>Organizations don&#8217;t simply scale.
